We went to our first vet visit last night after puppy training classes.
The boys both weigh 6.6kgs. A good weight range, as Cavalier King Charles spaniels are meant to be between 5kg and 8kgs. Almost fully ‘cooked’.
>Just occurred to me that I didn’t take any photos..DAMN<
When we first got Gus, we were told he had a heart murmer, so we wanted to get it checked up on ourselves. We were hoping that perhaps he had grown out of it. Apparently not at all (which I wasn’t really surprised about because his chest doesn’t have the same heartbeat that Ludo’s has). The vet gave us the full ‘scary’ run down regarding heart murmers and what that can mean. Shortened lifespan, forever on medication, etc etc.. Lots of scary.
End result? We got referred to a puppy heart specialist in North Sydney to get him checked via ultrasound. Find out how serious it is. We’re hoping it’s one of those ‘sounds terrible but actually it’s nothing’ kind. I think it’s possible as he certainly doesn’t act like a sick dog.
Otherwise, both boys are fine. Temperatures are good and Ludo snoring like a pig is also semi-normal.
$130 later, we’re doing ay-okay and wondering how much a ‘puppy heart specialist ultrasound’ is going to cost. Unfortunately, the don’t really do ‘medicare for dogs’.

You bring up some points, I’ve often brought up myself.
